Sweden is a country in Europa Universalis II. In normal games their provinces are coloured blue, in fantasia games, they are coloured light orange.

AI Priorites[]
Sweden always uses the Sweden AI file. This means that They have the following priorities:
Colonization[]
Sweden will attempt to colonise up to 2 provinces at the same time, and establish a trading post 50% of the time (significantly more than the default). Their bonus for colonising provinces next to ones they already control is 0 (compared to a default of 50). Their bonus for colonising provinces next to other countries is 0 (compared to a default of -50).
When colonising, they will prioritise the regions of Scandinavia Carribean, and West Africa (marked yellow on the maps). They will also prioritise the areas of Antilles and America (marked red on the maps)
Trade[]
Sweden will send a trader just as often as the default AI (the maximum value of 100) and will refuse trade as often as the default AI (the standard of 25 out of 100),
War[]
Sweden is more of a warmonger than the default AI (having a warmonger value of 60, as opposed to 10). It is willing to fight some way from home (a setting of 3.0, as opposed to the default of 0.5), is less likely to focus on liberating its own provinces (1.0 compared to 2.0), other settings are either identical or almost identical to the default AI.
Sweden is particularly likely to declare war on the following countries:
Monarchs[]
Kalmar Union[]
These monarchs are available during the period of the Kalmar Union. Unionsråd will be removed if any of the Swedish events titled End of the Kalmar Union fire. If the earlier Kalmar event fires (i.e. the Kalmar Union ends before 1521) then Nationalregenter will be activated.

Events[]
Relations with Denmark[]
On both a 1419 and a 1492 start Sweden begins as a vassal of Denmark – simulating the historical Kalmar Union betwee the three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, which lasted between June 1397 and June 1523. For most of the period of the game Sweden and Denmark were major rivals. This section details events that affect relations between the two.
The Engelbrekt Rebellion
This event is triggered by a Danish event of the same name. The Danish event happens if, at any point between 1st January 1434 and 1st January 1437, Sweden is a vassal of Denmark. It happens up to 720 days (2 years) after the trigger. The Swedish event happens if Denmark chooses the first of two options (Replace Jösse Eriksson with Hans von Eberstein).
Sweden has three options. Option A is Have Engelbrekt murdered, option B is Direct the rebellion towards Denmark proper, and option C is Pick up the torch of freedom!. They have the following effects:
Have Engelbrekt murdered
- Causes two rebellions each in Bergslagen, Nyland, and Västergötland and one rebellion in Finland
- +2 Stability.
- Removes the leader Engelbrekt from the game
Direct the rebellion towards Denmark proper
- Triggers the Danish event The Rebellion Spreads
- Triggers two rebellions in Bergslagen
- +4 Revolt risk for 12 months
- Removes the leader Engelbrekt from the game
Pick up the torch of freedom!

- +1 tax in two random provinces
- -4 |Stability

- +200 Ducats
- +100 Relations with Denmark
- +3 Stability
- +1 Serfdom
- +1 Aristocracy
End of the Kalmar Union
There are two different events of this name. The first happens immediately if Sweden is not a vassal of Denmark at any point before 31st December 1521. The second happens if Sweden is a vassal of Denmark a any point between 1st January 1521 and 1st January 1525. It happens up to 1024 days (2 years, 10 months, 4 days) after the trigger.
The first event has no options, whilst the second has two different options. Option A is Gustav Vasa shall be King!, and option B is The Union is Best. They have the following effects:
Earlier event
- Replaces the monarch Unionsråd with the monarch Nationalregenter (increases administration skill by 1, reduces military skill by 1)

Dynastic Events[]
These events affect who the reigning monarch is in Sweden. A number of these events appear to be broken - they either activate a dormant monarch without removing the active monarchs they are replacing, or remove a monarch who is due to be replaced at that point in the game anyway.
The Sons of Gustav Vasa
This event happens on 28th September 1568. There are two options. Option A is Dethrone Erik and option B is Have Johan Executed. They have the following effects:

- Prevents the event Arvid Horn and the Age of Freedom from happening
- Prevents the event Pietism and the Conventicle Edict from happening
- Prevents the event Swedish Parliament of 1738 from happening
- Prevents the event The Threat to Protestantism in Germany from happening
The second option of this event as written seems to be slightly broken, as it does not deactivate the default monarchs who are due to reign at the same dates at the new ones.
Queen Christina – The Catholic Maiden
This event happens on the 6th June 1654 as long as Sweden did not choose the second of two options (King Sigismund) in the event King Sigismund and Duke Charles in 1598. There are two options. Option A is Abdicate and option B is Stay and personally convert to catholicism. The two options have the following effects:

It should be noted that the monarch after Kristina (Karl X Gustav) is due to ascend to the throne on 7th June 1654 anyway.
The Election of a Swedish Crownprince
This event happens up to 100 days (3 months, 10 days) after 1st January 1743.There are two options. Option A is Adolf Fredrik of Holstein-Gottorp and option B is Fredrik of Denmark. The two options have the following effects:

- +2 Quality
- -100 Relations with Russia
- +100 Relations with Denmark

- Prevents the event Swedish Parliament of 1765
- Prevents the event The Dethronement of Gustav IV Adolf
- Prevents the event The Coup d'Etat and the Enlightened Despot
- Prevents the event The Act of Union and Security
Note that the second option as written does not remove any monarchs from the game, so presumably the new dynasty alternates with the existing ones.
The Election of a Swedish Crown Prince - vassal acknowledgement
This event happens if Sweden selected the second option (Fredrik of Denmark) in The Election of a Swedish Crownprince and Denmark exists. It has the sole effect of losing Sweden 50 Victory points.
The Dethronement of Gustav IV Adolf
This event happens up to 10 days after 1st May 1809, as long as Sweden did not choose the second of two options (Fredrik of Denmark) in the event The Election of a Swedish Crownprince in 1743. It may not happen after 20th May 1809. Sweden has two options. Option A is Dethrone and install Jean-Baptist Bernadotte, option B is Let him rule. The options have the following effects:

- Removes the monarch Gustav IV Adolf
- +1 Stability
- +150 Relations with Russia
Let him rule
- Removes the leader Karl XIV Johan

It should be noted that the monarch Karl III is due to come to the throne in May 1809 anyway, and this event does not change that in any way.
Reductions[]
The reductions were a series of historical events where Swedish monarchs reclaimed land and power from the nobility. There are a number of events which simulate the effect of these reductions.
The Quarter Reduction of Charles X
This event happens if Karl X Gustav is king at any point between 1st January 1656 and 1st January 1661. It happens up to 10 days after the trigger, and cannot happen if Sweden chose the second option (King Sigismund) in the event King Sigismund and Duke Charles in 1598.
